LIVESTRONG® LS13.0E Elliptical

Premium feel and quality; feature-packed.

SKU: HEP0337-01

Key Features

SIXSTAR Certified™ frame

Derived from extensive biomechanics research, SIXstar Certification™ is a unique combination of the six key elements needed to deliver the most natural elliptical feel available. It focuses on all areas that impact the feel and comfort of an elliptical, including body positioning, handlebar spacing, elliptical foot path, pedal placement, elliptical access and the trainer's drive mechanism.

Unique MAXtone™ pedal delivers ultimate comfort and faster results

The arched design of the MAXtone™ pedal utilizes the science of balance training to uniquely recreate a walking or running motion. Your foot flows through the motion just as it does when walking on sand -- your heel contacts first, then rolls up to the toes for push off. This eliminates the "tingling foot" sensation found on other ellipticals, and initiates core activation. The gel cushioning provides additional traction and shock absorption.

Multiply workout options with power incline and premium handlebars

With the touch of a console button, use any of the 20 levels of power incline to take your workout to the next level or to vary the muscle groups you're working. Our premium, multi-grip handles help you find the position that's just right for your body.

Quality you can feel

Long, 20-inch stride length is smooth and fluid. The upgraded, heavy-duty 30-lb. flywheel delivers the smoothest elliptical experience and unparalleled performance.

Equipped with Livetrack Interactive™ technology

This exclusive-to- LIVESTRONG® feature works like this: When you work out, simply insert the USB device that comes with your machine into the console. When you’re finished, transfer the USB to your computer. Within seconds you’ll be able to track your workout history on the Daily Plate feature of LIVESTRONG.com. Here you can also download exclusive new, FREE programmed workouts designed by Peter Park, Lance Armstrong’s personal strength and conditioning coach.

Supporting the cause

Each purchase of the LS13.0E ensures that we will donate a minimum of $4 million to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the fight against cancer.

Ultimate Purchase

Being retired military and running marathon's over the years, I found my legs to be in pretty rough shape. I decided to hit the gym after a few years off. I've been going to the gym three times a week for the last six months. My gym uses Precor equipment. These machines are quite large and don't offer the handle bar configuration for the push/pull motion. After much internet research and actually going to the stores for a demo, I decided on the LiveStrong LS13.0. The instruction manual was easy to follow and I had the machine up and running within 4 hours. I find this equipment every bit as study and quite as the commercial brand used by my gym. I actually prefer this one better because of the options it has on the console. Anyone in the market, needs to look no further! This machine is awesome!

Does this elliptical seem harder to use than others?

I'm a bit out of shape, not really overweight but lost a lot of muscle due to not working out. However, I always used to work out on elliptical and the "off" setting was always ridiculously easy. The "off" setting for this machine is really hard. Both my husband and I are completely wiped out after 5 minutes with our quads and thighs burning! I feel like it's much harder than anything I have ever used.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Elliptical 13.0E

This unit is much more impressive once it is setup in your house. I have used in gyms or owned at home all of the top brand names of Elliptical machines. I read that this unit had a more natural feel. When I first used it I found it did not feel like any unit I had used and was not comfortable with it. Once I realized it was made to be more like the feel of running on an Elliptical I made some adjustments and found it to be the the best Elliptical I have used. Using a heart monitor it is much easier to hit my target heart rate than other Ellipticals. I wish I had purchased it sooner.

The heart rate monitor on the unit is not up to my expectation, but since I have other monitors to use it is not a deal breaker.

I have not had it long and some things may change, but first impression is you could not go wrong with this system.

Very good on all counts except software

Positives: sturdy, quiet operation, easy assembly (for mechanically inclined), nice footpads for barefoot, easy to move around, good incline and resistance range.

I don't use the fan or speakers and I think they are not necessary as much as having good sensors and software which leads to the-

Negatives: the heart rate monitor is not very good. I tried the FAQ suggestions and numerous things but the heart rate display is rarely correct. They say not to hold onto the handles too long but it takes over 30 sec to get anywhere near the correct heart rate. Also the energy output rate (Watts) display never reads correct. Its all over that place. Both heart rate and watts are a function of time and neither work correctly so I believe this is due to poor electronics design or poor programming of the chips. Thought about hacking and reprogramming it but not worth the effort - the mechanical stuff is good.

Great Machine

I have been using this machine for the past month and the results are incredible. I was getting a so called "Beer Belly" and during this short period of time, I transformed my abs to almost a six pack at age 50. I'm completely addicted to this machine after seeing the results. Along with using the LS 13, I work out with weights and I include a fair amount of sit ups. NOTE: While using the LS 13 I first noticed some noise with the rotating arms. (Clunking sound) I added grease to all the pivot points and now it is very quiet. This grease was an addition to what the factory used..

Good Buy but....

Store Model was the same as the assembled product in my house. (+)

Somewhat easy to assemble. Use lithium based grease on EVERY bolted connection to (1) make tightening easy and (2) avoid inevitable annoying squeaking when you use it. (+)

I am 71" tall. The stride is too short for me and you can't adjust it. (-)

Also, reaching down to grab the heart rate sensors is a bit awkward and I am not that tall. (-)

Downloadable programs are good (+) but you can't find the detailed profile of the incline/resistance it auto sets during a workout. (- - )

Using the USB flash is good, but it only retains your last 5 workouts. It copies exactly what the machine has on record, even though it is a 2 gig flash. (- -)

Uploading your workouts to www.livestrong.com is easy enough (+) but it only displays last 5 workouts, even when you ask for all-time history (- -)

Calling customer support is confusing because the livestrongfitness.com folks don't talk to the livestrong.com folks. Apparently they are two different companies, so you get a run around when asking about the software. (- -)

When you call about the software issues, they just say they're working on it and that's it. (-)

Having a reliable method to track my workouts is very important to me and customer service seems to be indifferent about it. (-)

I had enough of the run around and decided to just return this to the store.

So if you just want a decent elliptical, then this one is fine. But if you want some programming support or variation, that is just as good for your money, then get something with ifit.com compatibility.

excellant

So far so good!! I am really impressed by how easy it was to put together. Even a novice like my husband and I are it was really easy to follow instructions. We re copied the pages to make them larger but that was a personal preference. Everything is seperately marked, which made it a lot easier. The feeling is very smooth. Hope to continue exercising for my health and to lose those extra pounds!!!!

Best FIT by FAR!

After extensive research and trying out 5 manufacturers different models, the 13.0E was by far the best fit for both my wife (5'4") and I (6'2"). BE SURE TO TRY THEM ALL OUT AND PICK THE BEST FIT! Extremely smooth, flexible usage, comfortable in every way, SUPER easy build, love the internet/LS interaction. Can't overstress the importance of comfort/fit of the LS 13.0E - super easy to change settings, rounded footpad is best in class, the closeness of the foot pedels to each other is most natural to normal human walk/run pattern than any other unit we tried, The cycle of the flywheel movement does NOT jam knees and seems extremely natural to really walk/run movement. SOUND system is also excellent. The instructions and layout of the hardware and parts made this the easiest "Large" piece of equipment I've put together. SUPER impressed with the construction and ease of build - easiest with 2 on the job. SUPER satisfied with our decision and the quality has been great so far - very quiet. WHAT A WORKOUT - TOTALLY IMPRESSED and HIGHLY recommmended to anyone!

Excellent Eliptical for the Money

I've had the elliptical for only a couple of weeks now and have not had a chance to use all of the programs, but I can tell you the few I have used are awesome! I am a bike rider / runner so I prefer the outdoors when it comes to exercise and I haven't logged but a couple of workouts so far.

I will say this, the LS13.0E is a better quality elliptical than the Precor EFX I was using at the local gym. The workouts are much more intense and focused. Overall a much better elliptical (in my opinion) than the Sole or ProForm equivalents available for retail.

The only negative so far is a slight rocking of the elliptical at higher speeds - this may be due to the location of the machine itself (on carpet with 6# padding under) but I think a wider platform would help this issue. It is really only a minor annoyance as within the first 15 minutes of use you learn to "balance" yourself. As a plus, I think you get a better core workout as a result!

I would definitely recommend this elliptical !

High Quality - Solid Design - Great Workout

I reviewed many elliptical machines, as well as used many during my business travels. The quality of the LiveStrong LS13E stands out, comparable to higher end (higher priced) machines. The smooth operation delivers an impact-free workout that is challenging yet easy on the legs and arms. The foot pedals are very comfortable, spaced correctly (with some ellipticals you will feel like you’re running with your legs / feet too far apart). Also, I have found with other elliptical trainers, i.e. the Precor system, that my feet get a tingling feeling, possibly to the flat, unnatural foot pedal design, which does not happen with the LiveStrong LS13E. Now in my 40s, I find running everyday to be hard on my legs and longer to recover. The LiveStrong LS13E has made a significant impact on my training and is a major part of my workout / cardiovascular regimen. I’m able to maintain a daily cardiovascular routine that is challenging. The built-in and downloadable workouts are amazing whether you’re trying to lose weight, increase endurance or just trying to get max-cardio, it’s all built in waiting to challenge you. Small features like the built in fan or speakers (for your iPod) are very nice. It was not a part of my decision making, but I must say, I use both and enjoy the small breeze as well as no earbuds/lines to the iPod. The display and user interface are easy to navigate and show all the information you would be looking for. Time counts down your workout, distance in miles, workout level and powered incline levels displayed which all are very nicely organized and keeps you on track. The Heart rate monitor only works while holding the stationary handles, which have the sensors built in. It would have been nice to have those sensors on the articulating handlebar or a built-in RF sensor that would work with the chest strap monitors (like the Timex Personal Trainer Heart Monitor). Lastly, the downloadable USB feature is great. It will help you track your progress and if you’re like me, very competitive and driven to do beat your last time or last distance, it’s awesome. The LiveStrong.com tracking site will upload your workouts through the included USB and you can also load and track your calorie intake. This feature may be just a nice to have for some, but I find it a must have for those who are trying to reach a weight or fitness goal. The LiveStrong team has done a very good job pulling all the pieces together.

Excellent Choice

I was looking for a better than average elliptical. I was prepared to spend the big bucks on a higher end precor like what I was used to at the YMCA. On a whim one day, I stopped into a local sporting goods store to see what they carried. I tried out every model. When I got on the LS13.0E I knew I found the elliptical I wanted and for half the price I was prepared to pay. I went home, did some research and was happy with the reviews. I bought directly from livestrong.

The machine arrived in about a week. I'm fairly mechanical so I built it myself. Including unpacking, it took less than 4 hours to setup.

The workouts are great. The machine is really quiet. I noticed a knocking noise initially, but it turned out to be a bolt that needed tightened.

Overall, great purchase. Very happy customer.

Works great; reliability in progress

I’ve owned my Livestrong Elliptical 13.0E for just over a month now (as of this writing [10 May 2011]), and I’d like to relay my experience to other potential(?) owners for consideration.

For lack of a better approach, I’ll simply provide a somewhat abbreviated & chronologically-based recount of my experience to date. In early 2011, my 8-year old Nautilus-brand elliptical became unusable; as such, I immediately began to research (via the Internet, of course) potential replacement ellipticals. Long story short, the Livestrong brand appeared (based upon brand reputation, trying one at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and other owners’ reviews) to be the way to go. Wanting to have the “best of the best,” I splurged ($1300) and purchased the 13.0E Elliptical via the Livestrong website (mainly because they were offering a 1-year extension to the already-generous warranty (a $79 value), a deal that Dick’s Sporting Goods was not matching). I made the purchase on March 27th, 2011; I received shipment of the elliptical on April 1st, 2011 (hopefully not an ironic delivery date!). It took me approximately three (3) hours to assemble (I chose to take my time). Not too hard to assemble; however, let me say this: the numerical labeling of parts within the instruction manual carried no apparent equivalent on the parts THEMSELVES; regardless, it was, overall, rather intuitive to put together. NOTE OF CAUTION: be sure to remember the order of spring-washers versus flat washers (I had to correct myself a few times during assembly)!

Once assembled & plugged-in, the elliptical was AWESOME: smooth operation; comfortable feel; easy-to-use controls; in short, exactly what I wanted. I proceeded to use the machine “religiously” for the next 3+ weeks, logging about 15 total hours of use on it, UNTIL …

One morning (April 28th, 2011), whilst using the machine and changing resistance levels (I always use the manual mode and change resistance levels “on the fly”), a loud clicking noise started coming from the flywheel assembly, and no noticeable change to the resistance level could be felt. In fact, it felt like the resistance level went to the minimum. Curious and concerned, I cycled the power & tried using the unit again, with the same results. Believing there now to be a no-kidding problem, I chose to pursue “warranty action.”

I submitted my complaint via the Livestrong Customer Service website on April 28th, 2011 (I called their toll-free number as a back-up on that same day); an authorized repair technician showed-up at my house on May 10th, 2011 and successfully repaired the elliptical. As of this writing (May 10th), the problem was apparently a bad servomotor - a part that plays a key role in changing the resistance level on the machine.

The machine now (for the moment) appears to again work fine.

In conclusion, when it WORKS, it is a great machine. Smooth, quiet, easy-to-use. However, in spite of pursuing what I assumed was the “best of the best,” I (as described above) found myself with a reliability problem after less than a month of use, and barely 15 total hours of exercising. The repair technician wisely pointed out that the first version of any given model nearly always experiences some hiccups; as such, I recommend that any interested potential customers first ensure that Livestrong has addressed any & all known reliability problems BEFORE purchasing.

I hope this review helps!

Nice Machine - First Impressions

I bought an elliptical because my doctor said I needed to start working out at least 30 mins a day. I really hate treadmills, and the ellipticals are lower impact. After researching ellipticals, I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and did a test drive of multiple machines (Sole, Precor, and the Livestrong). I really liked the look and feel of the Livestrong LS13.0E. I placed my order and the elliptical was delivered yesterday.

Arrival Day: The elliptical was delivered by ABF. the lift gate didn't work on the truck, so we had to lower it by hand. The box was 4' L x 21" W x 30" H. I don't know the weight but it was somewhat easily moved by 2 people and a dolly.

Note: USE THE EXTRA GREASE THEY SUGGEST ON THE PARTS THAT ARE GREASED

Setup: The assembly instructions were pretty easy to understand. With the help of my 13 yo son, we assembled it in 3 hrs ( including the dissembly of the flywheel cover, only to discover the part that my son dropped actually fell through the machine and was laying on the floor, lol) The hardest part of the assembly were the handlebar covers. The self tapping screws are hard to get through the holes (seems that if the parts had threaded inserts, this process would be alot easier). All parts seem to be of good quality and arrived without damage.

The Workout: When I first got on the machine, I noticed how sturdy it was. Very little movement while exercising (I weigh 245lbs). I had a popping noise on the left side from where the lower handlebar and lower link arm mate. I disassembled, and noticed the the teflon washer was pinched. It was at this time that I decided to add grease to all the greased areas on the left side. Once reassembled, noise was gone.

I am VERY disappointed with the operators manual, it only covers the bare basics, (I currently have a flashing date and time, but no idea how to set it) , and most importantly I couldn't find any information on the livetrack interface. The USB drive just says livestrong.com on it and that's all. As much as it is plugged on the product video, I would think that there would be more information about it. I went on Livestrong.com and did a search, and came up empty. This was one of my favorite features of this machine. I have emailed Livestrong Fitness to see whats up. I don't know if I will keep this machine if the livetrack system is weak, not supported or hokey).

Overall First Impression after one 30 minute workout:

1: Easy Assembly for the most part
2: Quiet/Sturdy Operation
3: Needs Better Documentation
4: Love the strong fan but wish it was adjustable

lots of trouble with our elliptical

My husband and I spent several months trying several ellipital trainers and finally picked the 13.0 for a Christmas gift for each other last year. We have had multiple issues since our purchase last December.

It was easy for my husband to put it together taking him about 3-4 hours. From the onset, we had a terrible thumping sound from the right rear side, after several phone calls parts were shipped and a repair man came and replaced the right side and the thumping was no more.

One of the reasons we purchased this was that we were told by the Dick's Sporting Goods staff and the owners manual also stated that in the Muscle Toning setting the machine would prompt you to go forward and backwards. It never did as it said it would in the manual. After several phone calls, we were finally told that the machine did not do this and it was a misprint in the manual. This was very frustrating to me because as I had mentioned it was a training mode that swayed me toward this particular machine and now I'm told sorry it doesn't exsist. It would be like buying a new car with say cruise control and then finding out there is no cruise available on the model that you purchased.

Now, 4 months into owning, we have several noises coming from the left front area. It is so loud that I can not even use it. I just spent several minutes on hold with customer service and hopefully will get a call back soon. I am sure they will be pleasant and ship me parts and have a repair person come to fix it, But what happens when my warranty expires?

We just have some real reservations about our purchase and don't think we should be having the problems we are having. I do love the size of the maching and the foot pedals. When it is working, it is a very nice home machine, that is when it is working.

Impressive equipment

I have not had my elliptical very long, and have not used all the programs yet, but to date, I am very impressed with how sturdy and quiet this elliptical is. Because of limited space, I needed a machine that had a smaller foot print, but was not flimsy. This one sure fits the bill. I looked at a lot of them and found this one to be the right size, very smooth and quiet with it's 30 pound fly wheel, which is not usually found in the smaller sized ellipticals. It's relatively simple so you don't need lessons on how to use it. The fan is fantastic with good placement and was a major plus for me. Most all the buttons are aligned well, including buttons on the arms themselves. It has a station where I can plug in my MP3 and listen over the speakers that are actually much better than I expected. So far, I am very happy with my purchase.

Great machine for the price

I've had the LS13.0E for a couple of months now and it is a great machine for the price/features.

Couldn't Be Happier

We had an old Fitness Gear Elliptical machine and it was time to be replaced. We shopped around for almost 2 months. We kept going back to Dick's Sporting Goods to test drive the livestrongs as they were very smooth, had some of the heaviest flywheels and was extremly quite even in the stores with all the abuse they undergo! Putting it together took about 4 hours and the directions were some of the best we have seen! This is one of the best machines I have ever used. It is so smooth and the comfort grip on the pedals is wonderful. The programs are great and I love the fact that it saves your workout totals. My husband and I have a little competition going now. If you are considering buying another brand think again. This is an amazing machine. We were considering purchasing the 9.0 model but the 13.0 had a few more options and they were well worth the extra money!

Hopeful

Just invested in my first LIVESTRONG product. I bought a 13.0E Elliptical from Dicks Sporting goods. Once out of the box, the instructions were clear and easy to follow and the assembly of this product was quite easy! Less than two hours. But.... upon completion, when the moment of truth came around to start 'er up, the console appeared to be stuck in some sort of loop, as if there was a short. Disappointed, yes, I tried a couple of work arounds after having called Customer Service which was closed on the weekends. I'm hoping for spectacular customer service come monday, or Dicks will be finding a headless monster of an elliptical rolling into the store soon.

Great quality machine. Sturdy, quiet, and will be easy to use.... once it works. Don't let this example keep you from buying one... I'd recommend it to anyone.

Day 1: Setup Review

This is a 'Day 1" review of the LS 13.0E. As such it is a review of the setup of the elliptical.

Overall, the setup instructions and process was straightforward. The instructions were clear and the separation of the bolts, screws, and washers needed for each step is a great feature. I also found the labeling of many components with 'R' and 'L' very helpful. Bottom line is it took me 3 1/2 hours to set it up, and it works perfectly.

Now, for the minor difficulties. There are a few cosmetic plastic parts on the machine. These include the 'handlebar covers' and the 'top cap'. These are made of a hard plastic, and they just do not fit correctly or snugly on the machine. They are mostly cosmetic, so they don't hurt machine functionality. I spent about 40 minutes of the build time, just trying to get these 3 sets of plastic components on the machine and looking right. And one set of handlebar covers I never did get to look right. One of the screws will not go in, and the alignment between the two pieces is off, so that it looks like it's broken. A suggestion I would have would to redesign these plastic pieces with a more rubberized, less hard plastic material, which would allow it to fit snugly and have the wiggle room attach and look good.

The second challenge of putting together the machine is in step 3, when you have to 'pull the console cable through the console mast'. This sounds easy, but was very tricky. It accounted for another 30 minutes of the time. Basically, there is a cable of electronics that runs from the flywheel, through the mast, and attaches to the console. You must use a long twist-tie to thread it through the mast. As it is an electronic cable with a wired plugin on it, one must be gentle so as not to damage anything. You can't just tie the twist tie to the cable and pull, as it need to go through a tight hole in a tube in the mast. Just pulling it does not work as it wont be aligned properly to get through. I finally figured out that one must feed it through one end (by dangling the cable into one side of the hole) and then gently pulling it through the other end. It took a lot of trial and error. Also, if the twist comes loose and you pull it though without the cable, then you will have to first thread the twist tie back through the hole to start over (another challenge).

There is another step where the twist tie pull method is used, in the handlebars, but that went much smoother (again, as long as you are very very careful not to pull the twist tie through without the cable, if you do, you will again have a challenge.

So, those were the only two real challenge areas in putting together the machine. The plastic cosmetic components simply need redesigned. The cables are workable, but could use a bit more explanation in the manual on the procedure and care needed. Some special sort of bit to help attach the twist tie to the cable could possibly be designed to help the process.

Overall, it was a success, and the machine was up and working perfectly and quietly in an evening. I am giving it a rating of '4 stars' due to the plastic issue. But that really is not a functional issue at all. So the Overall Rating and Ease of Use (especially for the great assembly manual and parts packaging) are both 5 stars.

Nice Elliptical

I was injured (torn disk in lower back) at work 5 months ago. I am a police officer and to stay in shape I was running every day. During my recovery time I gained 20 lbs. I checked with my Dr and Physical Therapist and both said I could use an elliptical. My landlord has a highend elliptical or what was highend eight years ago. It works fine, but just does not seem smooth. The rest of my family does not like using the landlords elliptical because it does not fit them. We test drove alot of ellipticals, and went with this one for many reason, some of which include; Fit - the vertically challenged members of my family say that it fits them. They do not feel as thought they are leaning foward or over extending. Action - this elliptical is very smooth. Noise - this elliptical is very quiet. No problems hearing television or music while using it. I upload my data to Livestrong.com to track my food, calories, and workouts. Glad I bought it!!!!

Great quality product

I did a lot of comparing of this elliptical and this one is awesome! It's quiet, solid, sturdy, and very comfortable for long workouts. The more I use it,the more I love it. It's nice to not have to have the TV blasting to hear it,there is very little noice.

Love it

We did our research on-line and then went shopping. We hadn't even seen this machine on-line but when we saw it in store (Dick's Sporting Goods) and tried it out we knew we had found the machine to get. It has a more solid feel then other machines. It's smooth and super quiet! Since we had a couple other brands of elliptical machines on our list we continued to check them out and kept coming back to the Livestrong. We've had this machine now for a couple of months and we are still using it - not something I could say about other fitness equipment we have had. :)

Not Happy At All

I received my eilliptical yesterday and while putting it together found that one of the sensor wires was broken on the handle. Nto too big of a deal. I am fairly mechanical and it took me about 4 hour to complete the assembly. Worst part of this is that the control console doesn't work. I can;t get the it to start any workout at all. I have tried connecting and reconnecting but the "Start" button doesn't work. I decided to sleep on it and take a look at it this morning and nothing works on the console at all today. I have written emails and called but company is closed on the weekend. I guess I'm about to find out how good they are at customer service. I'll be reporting back. I am going to give them until the end of next week to get this resolved.

KinCityKitty (Las Vegas, NV)

Promising,but a little glitch

I love using My Daily Plate, and I really wanted to love this elliptical. I think I will, but after several hours of assembly, we discovered a clicking sound at one spot as we peddle. We think the clicking is inside the flywheel housing, but customer service said they would send a peddle assembly and a repair guy. Hopefully the repairman can fix it quickly and we can start using our new elliptical. The computer, speakers and everything else look like they will work fine in daily use, but first we have to get the clicking fixed.

Doug (Ishpeming, MI)

Average unit

Pros: Smooth operation
Easy to assemble
Good for smaller people
Good for newbees
Cons: Short stride length
Poor handle position
Inaccurate computer (actually displays lower

Very nice

This machine is an excellent purchase. My partner put it together in about 4/5 hours and we were off and exercising. The machine is VERY sturdy and super quiet. We love it already.
I was a bit worried at first because of the price and the recall of the 12.9 but they have worked out the quirks thus far! You will not regret your purchase with this solid and well thought out machine.
